NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a naturally occurring dinucleotide coenzyme (MW ≈ 663.4 Da in NAD+ form) present in all living cells, originally discovered by Arthur Harden and William John Young in 1906. It exists in two interconvertible redox states: NAD+ (oxidized) and NADH (reduced). It is intended strictly for laboratory and research purposes.
NAD is composed of two nucleotides joined through their phosphate groups: an adenine nucleotide and a nicotinamide nucleotide. The nicotinamide ring is the site of reversible reduction/oxidation chemistry, serving as the electron carrier basis for its biochemical function. This fundamental redox chemistry makes NAD central to research across virtually every domain of cellular biochemistry.
Bioenergetics Research: Studies examining NAD+/NADH redox cycling and electron transport chain function in cellular models.
Enzyme Chemistry Research: Investigations into NAD-dependent enzyme mechanisms including sirtuins (SIRTs), poly-ADP-ribose polymerases (PARPs), and CD38.
Molecular Biology Research: Academic studies of cellular redox biology and NAD+ biosynthesis/salvage pathways.
Comparative Biochemistry: Research examining NAD metabolism pathways across model organisms.
Research-grade NAD is sold strictly for in vitro research and laboratory use only. It is not intended for human or veterinary use, consumption, or application of any kind. It is not approved by the FDA to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. Not for use in any living organism.
